Gauging Rakes for Self-Levelling Epoxy, Urethane & Cement Floors
R557.75
ROX® Gauging Rakes are professional floor application tools designed to accurately spread self-smoothing and self-levelling flooring systems to a controlled thickness. They are suitable for self-levelling epoxy, urethane flooring systems and self-levelling cement screeds.
Each gauging rake is manufactured from abrasion-resistant stainless steel and features a precision-engineered angled blade designed to keep the rake at approximately 90° during use. This helps maintain a more consistent material application thickness across the floor.
The ROX® range includes gauging rake sizes designed for applications from approximately 500 microns through to 4 mm. Selecting the correct rake depends on the flooring system, required application thickness and the manufacturer’s recommended spread rate.

A gauging rake is a floor application tool used to spread self-levelling and self-smoothing flooring materials at a controlled thickness. The rake is pulled across the material to distribute it before the surface is further levelled and, where required, deaerated using an appropriate spike roller.
The ROX® Gauging Rake range is designed for self-levelling epoxy, urethane flooring systems and cement-based self-levelling systems. Different rake sizes are available to achieve different approximate spread rates.

What is a gauging rake used for?
A gauging rake is used to spread self-levelling and self-smoothing flooring materials at a controlled approximate thickness.
What materials can ROX® Gauging Rakes be used with?
ROX® Gauging Rakes are designed for self-levelling epoxy, urethane and cement-based flooring systems.
What thickness can a ROX® Gauging Rake apply?
The ROX® range is designed for approximate spread rates from 500 microns through to 4 mm, depending on the rake size.
What size gauging rake should I use for 2 mm?
The ROX® No. 5 gauging rake has a 5 mm notch and an approximate spread rate of 2.0 mm. Always confirm the required rake size against the flooring manufacturer's application instructions.
What size gauging rake should I use for 4 mm?
The ROX® No. 10 gauging rake has a 10 mm notch and an approximate spread rate of 4.0 mm.
Can gauging rakes be used for epoxy flooring?
Yes. ROX® Gauging Rakes are designed for self-levelling epoxy flooring systems.
Can gauging rakes be used for urethane flooring?
Yes. The range is designed for self-levelling urethane flooring systems.
Can gauging rakes be used for cement screeds?
Yes. ROX® Gauging Rakes are designed for self-levelling cement screeds and self-levelling cement systems.
Are ROX® Gauging Rakes stainless steel?
Yes. The gauging rakes are manufactured from abrasion-resistant stainless steel.
Why is the gauging rake blade angled?
The precision-engineered angled blade is designed to help keep the rake at approximately 90 degrees during use, helping maintain consistent material thickness.
What is the difference between a gauging rake and a spike roller?
A gauging rake distributes the flooring material to the required approximate thickness, while a spike roller is used to help remove bubbles and level suitable self-levelling materials.
Are gauging rake spread rates exact?
No. Spread rates are approximate and can vary depending on the material, substrate and application technique.
Are ROX® Gauging Rakes available in different sizes?
Yes. The professional range includes sizes from No. 1.2 through No. 10, covering approximate spread rates from 500 microns to 4 mm.
Are replacement gauging rake blades available?
Yes, subject to current availability.
| Tool | Typical purpose |
|---|---|
| ROX® Gauging Rake | Used to distribute self-levelling and self-smoothing flooring systems across larger floor areas at a controlled application thickness. |
| V-Notch Trowel | Used where a specific notched-trowel application pattern and material distribution method is required by the flooring system. |
The correct tool depends on the flooring system and manufacturer's application specification. Do not select a rake or trowel solely from the desired finished thickness.
